Crime in Panama has risen steadily in the past few years. The number of crimes committed in Panama each year has now been close to the highest it has been in over 25 years. There has been a drastic increase in the amount of narcotics and prostitution being carried out in the country.

The numbers aren’t shocking. In the first 10 days of 2012, 2,876 murders were reported. That’s nearly double the number of murders reported in 2009. There were over 1,000 homicides reported in 2011, and more than 800 in 2012, which is a 2.3% increase from the previous year. The number of drug-related deaths reached a new high of 3,723 in 2012.

It is clear that the cartels are continuing to do business in the country. In 2012 the number of deaths were 3,723. Thats a 70% increase from the previous year. The amount of drugs being sold is also up, with the amount of cocaine selling at almost 9 tons being sold at the peak of the drug war in 2012.

The number of murders has increased as well. The police reported a total of 1,979 murders in 2011, and 1,957 in 2012. The number of deaths are a whopping 1,947, a 50% increase. The amount of drugs being sold also rose from a year ago, with the amount of cocaine being sold at 9 tons, a 46% increase.

The spike in murders is a direct result of the increase in drug possession. In fact, marijuana possession is up by nearly 70% since 2007. Even though the police report the total amount of drugs sold is up, the amount of drugs sold to users is increasing (by a whopping 93%). The spike in murders is also a result of the increase in drug possession. Again, marijuana possession is up by nearly 70%, but cocaine possession is up by a huge 94%.

A lot of the increase in drug possession can be attributed to the fact that the police are now following up on all the people they caught with drugs. That is, they are not just arresting the user but the user is now being called to testify in court about his or her drug use. The amount of drugs sold to users is also up, by a whopping 93. The spike in murders is also a result of the increase in drug possession. Again, cocaine possession is up by a huge 94.

In the US and other countries, people who are caught with drugs are sent to a prison facility and their drug use is monitored. They are then given a chance to get their drug habits under control. In Panama, they have a program that allows them to remain on Deathloop and continue to use drugs while they are out of prison. This program is called “Ticaret”. It is believed that this program has saved more than a thousand lives.
